Some of the world’s central bankers believe cryptocurrencies are a threat to the stability of the global economic system. I’ll take “full faith and credit of the United States” over “backed by nothing”, and so will the vast majority of people. So despite all the crypto backers who consider “fiat currency” a term of derision, bitcoin is not going to replace USD.
The blockchain technology may have some interesting applications. If you remove the pseudo-currency aspect, perhaps it could be an alternative to Visa and Mastercard.
Once the silly speculative frenzy collapses, it will be interesting to see how the technology evolves.
